GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

Sir,
23
Despatch No.407 of 10th
6
With reference to the despatches noted in the
margin I have the honour to inform you
that I have approved of Captain (local Lieutenant-Colonel) R.C.B.Anderson, M.C.,
The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders,
relinquishing his appointment as Commandant, Hong Kong
Volunteer Defence Corps, and proceeding home on such leave
as may be due to him about the end of July, 1938.
October,1935, from Secretary of State. 52380 CR. Despatch Secret of 4th May 14/15/36
1936, to Secretary of State Despatch Secret of 19th
1936, from Secretary of State.
2.
It is desirable that his successor should arrive
by the beginning of August, 1938, in order to become
accustomed to the work before the annual training period
begins on the 1st of September, and I shall be glad if
steps may be taken early to select a suitable candidate on
similar terms and conditions to those governing the
appointment of Lieutenant-Colonel Anderson.
3. As regards salary I have reached the conclusion
that it would be desirable to appoint an officer of somewhat
greater seniority and I suggest that Captain Amler son's
successor should be of the rank of Major, retaining the
local rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.
If this is agreed it
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
W.G.A. ORMSBY-GORE, P.C., M.P.,
&C.,
&c., &C.
